Proud Mama!
Mar. 11th, 2009 10:17 pmI'm SOOOO proud of my baby! (see him there between Colin and Brad? He's quite a bit taller now, but you get the idea.)
Tonight, he was just inducted into the National Junior Honor Society!!!!!! He's made straight A's all year AND he's got extra-curricular activities out the wazoo to boot!
He plays saxophone (tenor and soprano) and he wants to learn, get this... the bagpipes! (son after my own heart!)
PLUS! He just tried out for Track and Field - and he made the team!!!!!! OMG, where is this kid coming up with all this energy?
*sniffs* He's growing up so fast - he'll be 14 in July, right when the next Harry Potter movie comes out and he's already got a peach-fuzz mustache. *GAH! I'm crying*
I feel old. But through him, I'm young again. :D

Sometimes I Just Don't Get People

I admit I'm weird to begin with, and that my idea of 'thinking' of someone is... wait for it.... actually taking the time to think about that person and what they like, how something would make them feel! What a novel concept!
If I spend time with someone, it's because I find the person genuinely interesting/funny/lovable/exciting, etc... you get the idea. I take time to find out their likes and dislikes, what makes them happy and so forth. This allows me to anticipate their needs and wants. For example, I'm not going to get someone who adores the color red something blue or green. It's stupid, `cause I know while they may smile that sickly smile and mumble 'thanks', I KNOW inside they're like, "WTF? I hate green! If she really knew me, she wouldn't have gotten this for me! That or she just doesn't care."
I do care, hence when I give gifts the person receiving the said presents REALLY likes what I get them, because I take the time to get to know them and find out what they want/like/need.
This does have a point, I promise.
So, and again, maybe I'm strange this way, in relationships, don't you think it's in your best interest to actually take the time and think about the other person? For instance, say you want something from your partner. You leave hints in conversations, maybe even talk about it to others in front of them, everything to include bringing up the subject outright to your partner. "I'd like this."
There's this grimace that forms on their face. "I'm too tired, or too busy to do this."
An even deeper scowl forms on my face. "If you didn't do this you wouldn't be so busy or tired."
A huge huff. "Fine, let me pencil you in and we'll spend time together."
My jaw drops. "Forget it."
"No! You wanted this, I'm trying to make it happen!"
I feel like dying inside. Because honestly, if it's THAT much of a chore to take the time to spend with me, why bother? And I despise when people/partners try to engage with you right after you ask for it. It's like they NEVER thought of it until you said something. I always think about the other person - AND IT'S NOT A FUCKING CHORE - so why is spending time with me becoming one?
Sometimes I wonder if I'm even worth it. I'm tired too... of being left behind.

Obama in Columbus
Mar. 6th, 2009 08:59 amSo, we were going to lose a bunch of police recruits until we got part of Obama's stimulus package. Now, we'll be able to hire 26-27 of them and they're graduating today.
My husband was able to snag a ticket to meet Obama since this event is closed to the public. Woah. Dave gets to meet Obama!!!!!

New Obsession!

Please forgive me, for I hath sinned... again.
Instead of working on my next chapter of Hunter's Bane (in your name, of course), I drooled over pictures of a young man that is young enough to be my son. Yes, you read that right, Lord... he's 15 years younger. This age difference, however, doesn't squick me out because my husband and I have this age span (he's 15 years older than me) - but that's another subject for another day.
No, I'm not committing adultery, Lord - in my fantasies, I only looked at the goods, I didn't touch. Give me credit for restraint. Not like I could actually touch said package, since the man is overseas... but I digress.
No, Lord... my new idol... erm, I mean, pastime is... TWITTER!
This young man has lead me astray, Lord, and has the power to corrupt the most innocent of minds! (my mind was clean before I cast mine eyes upon him, I swear!) You should recruit him for Foreign Missions! He'd be smashing at looking evil while sucking people in to do things they normally wouldn't dream of doing - such as starting on something that will probably take up too much of their time with inanities.
In short, Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) has caused me to sign up with Twitter, hence I've become.... TWITTERPATED!
If James Marsters (Spike) had an account I would've joined long ago. I checked. He doesn't have one. *sobs* But LOTS of other people do!
So after my long journey of 7 hours from Muscoutah, IL (visiting
imbloodyenglish ) to Columbus, OH, I went and looked at Twitter instead of going straight to bed. I can tell I'm a geek because Wil Wheaton is now on my Twitter. How cool is that???? Oh, so is my husband - who happens to look like John Lennon, Adrian Brody, Brian Brown, and Marty Feldman all got together and made a love child (shudders at the thought). As I said before, Lord - please forgive me for the sin of procrastination on writing, but I do promise to write tomorrow after the long-ass day at work. Sorry for the swearing, I'll try to be better about that, Lord. Thank you, though, for the lovely ideas you sent my way in the form of Madeline Kahn in the movie 'Clue' while I was at Tina's. Yes, she looked quite pale and tragic. ;) Tina got the tongue 'pssbt' right. Go her!
I'll sign-off now, Lord, and hope you find it within your great plan to forgive me my trespasses since I devoted the first half of my life to your service. The second half is mine to do with as I please. I deserve this whether you agree or not.

Feb. 4th, 2009 09:07 amJust so you know, I haven't read the Twilight series... yet. I only say YET because my dear hubby, knowing that I love vamps, decided to get me the series for Christmas. Andrew bless his little sparkly heart, I can't just NOT read it - because then he'd know. But I know enough about it that I won't find satisfaction from it because, let’s be honest... since when does a vamp only want to gaze longingly at his meal or potential mate? HA! Guess I'm used to Angel or Spike being snarky and aggressive.
I came across this, however, and I have to agree with King:

I love King, he's just so damned twisted and I love how he plays with people's psyche. Plus, I really like JK Rowling - because she's a good writer, not necessarily because of Harry Potter.
