My 5 were:

Spuffy
Dramione
Books
TV Shows
Vampires or Anything else you'd like

Spuffy ~

I didn’t get into Buffy the Vampire Slayer until early 2007. I was a fan of the movie (yeah, I know – it was campy, cheesy and stupid, but I loved the snark) and when I heard they were making it into a series, I was adamant that I wouldn’t watch it because it would tarnish my image of it. I know, I’m weird that way. BUT, I was going to have surgery on my right ankle (it was broken in 2000 and never healed properly) and I knew I was going to be laid up for at least 3 months. BOOK AND TV TIME! The first I EVER glimpsed BTVS was when Spike was trying to get his chip out with the Initiative doc and he sat up to growl “SLAYER!” Woah. I better check this out. I YouTube’d some episodes and I got Xander talking with Buffy and Willow – oh I loved the dialogue! When I goggled BTVS, The Spuffy Realm appeared as one of the choices. I went to take a look and BAM! I was hooked! I voraciously read everything that appealed to me, the plot bunnies just breeding like mad and that’s when I started OFLG. I wanted, in my mind at least; to connect the movie with the series and this was my way of dealing with the two very different takes. Merrick will always be my favorite Watcher though (sorry Giles). I wrote OFLG, not having watched a single episode of Buffy and it suffered for it. So while I was laid up, I watched all 7 seasons - minus the last few of season 7 because I was crying with every freakin’ episode I was making myself sick! Still not watched it yet. Only recently has Tina been able to get me to watch Angel and I’m still not convinced it’s that good.

Dramione ~

I’ve always loved Harry Potter. But when the last book came out, I was left feeling… short-changed. Ron and Hermione seemed… blah. Cruising my LJ, I noticed The Forbidden Awards included other fandoms – SPN, Torchwood, HP – YAY! They were looking for judges. Again, YAY! I signed up. Before the assignments were handed out, I browsed the categories and looked at the parings in HP (I was already familiar with the ones in the Buffyverse – y’all are just wrong. ;) ) and was curious about Draco being paired with Hermione. I’d always had an affinity for Draco, so this intrigued me. I began reading and, like with Buffy, BAM! I was totally sucked into Dramione shipping! I became so obsessed with it that I had to share my addiction! Thank god my betas love Dramione or I’d be up shit creek without a paddle. So far, I’ve written one one-shot for the fandom and so far it looks like there will be more!

Books ~

I’m a VORACIOUS reader. Anything and everything. Yes, I was one of those kids who sat and read the dictionary or encyclopedia for fun. My dream house is a moderate place, but one gigantic room is oak/pine/cherry from wall to floor and filled with nothing but books. ~Woah, I think I just had an orgasm there ~ Needless to say, I’m a bookworm. My ex-husband tried to garner my affections by buying me useless things, things HE wanted. My mother told him, “Just give Carrie a book and a comfy chair and she’ll love you forever.” It didn’t happen, but I still have my books. ;)

TV Shows ~

As a kid, I was lucky enough to be around when cable first came onto the scene. I got to watch Nickelodeon when it first started and it opened my eyes to films/cartoons from other countries. I got to watch the Clangers with the Soup Dragon from the UK and Dangermouse! The shows I watched growing up were numerous but my favorites were ‘In Search Of’ with Leonard Nimoy (it creeped me out, but I loved it) and Saturday morning Soup, from a TV channel in Cleveland that we happened to get in Columbus. The first adult oriented TV show was Beauty and the Beast. It will forever hold a tight reign on my heart, as it played all throughout my high school years and helped shape me. Then there was ‘Forever Knight’, ‘Star Trek’, ‘Torchwood’, ‘True Blood’, and ‘The Tudors’. There are some series I can get into, especially if it has a paranormal element to it, but others I just can’t make myself like – like Supernatural. I know a WHOLE BUNCH of you guys are SPN fans. Great! AWESOME! I tried watching it. I was bored… sorry.

Vampires ~

When I first watched Dracula, at the tender age of 4, once again, I was hooked! Is it unnatural for a 4 year old to be drawn to dark things? I watched Jaws when I was 3 (my parents didn’t know) and I became fascinated with sharks. I watched ‘Alien’ when I was 7 and thought ‘wicked!’ I watched ‘Friday the 13th’ (the old one) and ‘The Exorcist’ when I was 10 and immediately I was drawn to them. Do you see a pattern? Good. Of all the movie monsters and villains I’ve come across, nothing stirs me like vampires. The seductive quality of being able to thrall someone, the drinking of blood to sustain life, the aversion to sunlight (I really don’t like the sun, ask my husband) and the longing for companionship that most of them have after wandering the earth for so long. The perfect tragic character. It’s a constant theme: Beauty and the Beast, Phantom of the Opera, Dracula… all contain dark characters searching for compassion or companionship in one form or another.
