Mercury, the planet of communications, finally turns direct in Taurus on May 30 and the second Mercury retrograde of 2009 will officially be over! It is time for the misunderstandings, confusions and fuzzy thinking to end and conversations to begin anew!

WOO HOO!!!!!!!!

Usually the message associated with Mercury turning direct is 'full speed ahead' -- but this one is a little different. The caution flag is still up.  Over the next week and a half, Mercury advances toward a square with mystical but often-confusing Neptune. Listen carefully to what people are telling you and be sure of their intentions before signing agreements. This aspect is great for meditation and heightening your creative and psychic abilities, but when you need your logical mind to work at warp speed, you’ll have to pay extra attention to make sure you make great decisions.

Mercury spent most of the retrograde period in the sign of Taurus, and will be turning direct in this sign that rules money and possessions. Taurus doesn't like to give up stuff (oh, don’t we know it!  I have two Taurus brothers and damn!), and most of us have had to give up something in these tough economic times. We have all been directly affected in one way or another with business slowdowns and layoffs. Now as Mercury turns direct, we can use that grief to our benefit if we focus and do something about it.

THANK EVER LOVING GOD!  This month has been pure HELL for most people, including me.  But even though the funk is coming to an end, like it says, stay a bit more vigilant.

Only two more Mercury Retrogrades to go.

Okay, I know I’m a sadistic woman, but when I saw this, I couldn’t help myself!

1) Take the nearest five thick books. If you don't have five thick books near you, go to the bookshelf. If you're too lazy to do that, use fewer than five.

2) Turn to page 394.

3) Take the second sentence on that page of each book.

4) Arrange the sentences to form as coherent a story as possible.

I found this challenge on the ‘Simmering Cauldrons’ fanfic website, specifically for the Harry Potter fandom. But this is so universal; it can be used for ANY fandom. Of course I’m gonna mess with it! I do challenge those of you who are writers to try this - it's way harder than it looks!

My sentences are:

“Some of these may seem weird… or you might find one that suits you perfectly.”

“You may think you’ve heard it all before, but different planes have different escape methods.”

“It, and it alone, carried them through.”

“Who’re you going with then?”

“Lock pickers?”

*looks up at choices. Oy vey.*

This is my first Severus Snape/Hermione Granger ficlet, by the way. I probably suck at it, but it was very hard to come up with a plausible idea that included all these sentences, though once I got going I had fun with it!

Rated G - not even a swear word, I'm so proud of myself.

Your result for The Social Persona Test (What kind of man/woman are you?)...

The Rarity (QTAF)

Quirky Traditional Alpha Female

You have an unusual and unbelievably precious combination of traits, especially in a woman. Not only are alpha females extremely rare, but traditional ones with nerdy/geeky interests are even more scarce. Unlike the other types, I can't give you a description because I'm not sure if you actually exists. I know this is not a compatibility test, but you are the girl of my dreams. (Assuming, that is, that you are also in your twenties and live in New England). Please, oh please message me!

You are more QUIRKY than NORMAL.

You are more TRADITIONAL than LIBERAL.

You are more DOMINANT than PASSIVE.

When picking a date, consider: Lord of the Misfits (QLAM), The Late Bloomer (QTAM), The Snowball's Chance in Hell (QTBM), or The Manga Geek (QLBM).

Some help to minimalize the effects of that stupid Mercury Retrograde:

Saturn, the slow moving planet of karma and the taskmaster of the zodiac, which has been retrograde since December 31 of last year, finally turns direct on May 16. This ushers in a period of possibilities as our inner plans begin finding their way into the outer world, and vague outlines of concepts begin to sharpen.

Saturn asks for commitment, discipline and a sense of purpose to work its magic of making dreams real. He commands us to get to work, and to work hard. Discipline and responsibility are important to this planet. Saturn reinforces responsibility, carrying your share of the load and being held accountable for what you say or do. Saturn rules wisdom, but it is wisdom gained from hard work and experience -- earned one difficult step at a time.

During a direct period, Saturn inspires confidence. As its role as a teacher, during a direct transit, Saturn also bestows inner strength - strength of spirit, a deepening sense of compassion and understanding of self, others or a particular situation.

If you’ve been in a funk, sick, or depressed lately, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

In response to drabble request from [livejournal.com profile] mareen_manuela:

What could be better than the kissing scene in episode four? Maybe an intermezzo after 'Cyberwoman'?

Hehehe, I love Mareen - she's all kinds of sweetness. Plus, she's kick ass at German translations! :D

And thank you so much for being so patient with me, dearest - I think it came out rather well. ;)

This takes place right after the episode "Cyberwoman" from the series Torchwood. There is some dialogue from that episode and 'Countrycide' in this little drabble. If you're a fan, you know what I'm talking about.

Rating: PG-13 - It is Owen, after all - such a filthy little bugger he is.

In light of the new movie hitting the theaters on Friday, I would LOVE a Trek drabble. If you want to make it Spike and Xander discussing Trek that's okay, too.

I have to confess, I love Spike/Xander friendship - they play so well off each other! I also wanted an established, or at the very least a tentative friendship between the two, so I chose my finished story, Omniscient, in which to set this. I'd say this could be two months post-Omni.

This is WAY longer than a drabble, but I figured since Carly had been so kind to wait patiently for her drabble, I'd make it longer (plus the muse spanked my ass hard to make it longer).

I hope you enjoy it hun!

*DISCLAIMER* Star Trek belongs to Paramount and Rodenberry, God rest his soul. Spike and the other belong to... well damn, I can't say me, as they blong to Joss. Stupid people.*

Your handwriting reveals you as a thoughtful, intellectual type who avoids fake people and places where there's lots of noise and crowds. You're probably the one people go to when they're feeling super sad. Read more...

What does your handwriting reveal about you?

Oh my goodness. I HATE fake people! I totally avoid crowds if I'm writing `cause I zone out and people think I'm ignoring them. Damn, this was good!

I wondered why there was a general feeling of ickiness hanging around today, besides the ongoing rain.  Mercury turns retrograde today.  Normally, this happens 3 times a year, but this year is happens 4 times.  Oh joy.

Mercury, the planet of communication, goes retrograde for the second time this year on May 6-7 (depending upon your time zone). Mercury normally turns retrograde three times a year -- however, in 2009 Mercury turns retrograde four different times. The effects of each retrograde period differ depending on the sign in which it occurs. This time around, Mercury is turning retrograde in Gemini -- its home base. Mercury is the ruler of Gemini!

Both Gemini and Mercury govern communications, the way we pick up information and process thoughts. Mercury rules thinking and perception, processing and disseminating information and all means of communication, commerce, education and transportation. Mercury retrograde gives rise to personal misunderstandings as well as flawed, disrupted or delayed communications, negotiations and trade glitches, and breakdowns with phones, computers, vehicles.

During this retrograde period, step back from decision-making, agreements, contracts and use this review time to your benefit. Write down the pros and cons of everything since your mind will not settle on anything one hundred percent! When Mercury turns direct on May 30, you'll have greater clarity and are more likely to make good decisions. If possible, avoid buying communication-related products such as computers and phones. Keep receipts if you do. If you are traveling, double-check your reservations and bring a good book to read and plenty of games for the kids in case you are delayed. From late in the evening of May 13 through the end of the retrograde period, Mercury will be transiting the sign of Taurus, the sign ruling money. Decisions about investments and handling of finances should also be put off during this period.

Like any cosmic event, this retrograde affects each of us differently depending on how it's positioned in our personal birth charts. A Mercury retrograde period may be very prosperous for those who have retrograde Mercury, or a well-aspected Mercury, in their birth charts.

While a retrograde period may be an introspective time for all of us, if Gemini is prominent in your chart, you will have more than your usual share of introspection. Gemini is a mutable sign, so if other mutable signs -- Pisces, Virgo, Sagittarius -- are prominent in your chart, you will also experience a period of intense self-examination.

So in general - it's not gonna be a happy time for a bit, so bear with it and try not to let things get too bothersome for you.

Natalie and LaCroix - I think they should have him and Nick fighting over her.

Oh, I how I loved Forever Knight - and what do you know? I just happened to have a couple episodes available to watch on DVD from Blockbuster Online! So I watched a few to become familiar with the characterizations again and I think I did a pretty good job. Alas, there were only three seasons, but it left its mark on the vampire genre.

And CONGRATS are in order to [livejournal.com profile] wildcatcdc because today, she finished her magnum opus, "Out Of Control." It's available on aff.net and her own LJ if you want to read (yes, I'm pimping the shit out of that fic) and it's totally engrossing. This is for you, hun - I hope you like it!

Disclaimer! Some lines of dialogue are taken from the series, but they worked so well that I had to use them. Don't sue me Canadian TV, `cause I ain't rich and the exchange rate would kill you.

This is based loosely on an episode in the second or third season - I can't remember which - where Nick took Natalie out to dinner, but Lucien showed up.
